indie traveler and slow travel

Yesterday, a dear friend of mine pointed me to an article on Slow Travel and I thought it was interesting. Slow travel refers to travelers – indie or non indie – who take their time when they travel, without rushing to do the touristy stuff. It helps us to enjoy the essence of a real indie vacation and without forgetting what a real vacation should do to our mind and total being.

While there are many indie destinations for indie travelers, from Outer Banks, trekking in the Himalayas to beach hopping in the Hawaiian islands or taking a fresh appreciation at the autumn colours of ancient city Kyoto. Talking about Kyoto, I am so excited with our upcoming family trip to Japan. I can’t wait to experience a Ryokan stay in Hakone and most importantly, I’m praying for the nicest autumn leaves when we arrived in end November. I sure hope to do some slow travel with my family this time though we will only be in Japan for two weeks.

Everybody has various interests, hobbies and passions. Some prefer to relax with a book and others prefer to get out there and play some sports on a summer’s day. With the long weekend coming up, my friends are planning to take a group trip to the beach. Heading to the beach with friends is sure the way to enjoy the weekends this summer.

This summer, alot of my indie designer friends are taking a break from their crafting, painting, sewing and designing. A couple is making plans to head down to The Caribbean for one of the cool all inclusive resorts for a real romantic getaway. With all inclusive vacations, you can eat and drink to your heart’s content without worrying about more bills to sign off. Choose from negril jamaica resorts to Bahamas to Dominican Republic. I can’t wait to hear about their pick and their travel itinerary for this summer vacation.

Whenever I’m in the bookstore magazine section, I’ll be browsing through travel magazines for new travel ideas. My favourite travel magazines are Conde Nast Traveler and Travel and Leisure, where those captivating photos can entice you to call your travel agent right away. Many of these travel photos of luxurious resorts, immaculate decor, gourmet dining, romantic setting, idyllic beaches and long white sandy beaches… we see these great sights in travel shows too!

Well, all inclusive resorts are popular for many good reasons. They give you the peace of mind of not having to worry about what to eat and how much to budget for the day. They are sought after by families, leisure seekers, honeymooners, retirees and anyone who needs a ‘real’ vacation. Superclubs offer many brand names in various destinations of your choice – Negril, Jamaica, Bahamas, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Curacao. All you need to do is to book your flights or get a package and you are all set for a relaxing vacation. You don’t even need to bring money for tips.
