Moving into a new house can be exciting, depending how you look at it. If you are into furnishing and home decorating, then you will enjoy the process of getting a place, furnishing it and designing it to your liking. When we were furnishing our home ten years ago, we visited a few warehouse sales for our furniture and kitchen fixtures. We managed to purchase a couple of Franke sinks at superb prices and everything else was bought at a discount. We kept it as indie as possible with some DIY touches on furnishings. Simplicity was our focus and we decided to keep it as clean and friendly as possible.

In less than a year’s time, we would need to furnish our second home. Hopefully I can find some artisan collections during the decorating process since we like to continue our indie lifestyle. Bringing indie touches to a home can be real fun when you are open to look at the options out there.

Today is the first day of the second month for 2010 – wow, has one month passed already? I’m feeling a little guilty cos I haven’t got much done in the last 31 days! This year, I am going to put in more efforts into this indie lifestyle blog and include in more useful resources for my readers.

I have been hearing news that the economy is picking up and it’s good for all of us. This means the jobless rates will decrease and people will have better lives… hopefully. Retail business should also pick up and things are generally going to be more rosy for families and workforce. 2009 has been challenging and everyone is looking forward to a better year in 2010. I do hope that there is more employment opportunities in the coming months and this will be good news for those who have been facing difficulties with work in the last year.

The term slow travel has been very popular among the indie community of late. Well, I just got back from a 2 weeks vacation and it felt slow travel for me this trip. I stayed with the locals and did things that locals do – slow and easy. As much as I want it to be part of an indie lifestyle, I couldn’t do that due to contraints.

It was however tiring to be traveling with a young child who was constantly demanding for attention. Infact, it was natural fat burner for me, keeping him busy and occupying him with activities. I managed to steal some time to the Sunday markets at Broadbeach on the last day in Gold Coast. It was a small Sunday market with some very local stuff. I bought a beaded necklace from an indie designer (emubeads.com) and totally love it. I only shop for local and indie stuff when I am in markets like that. Many of them make their own foodstuff including macadamia nuts and honey. It was nice strolling along the stores, if only I had more time!

Well, now that I’m back, I find myself missing the indie stores at the markets. I should have bought a few more beaded necklace from Emubeads… she was indeed a talented indie artist. I can’t wait to be back at the Gold Coast again… particularly broadbeach.

I have finally got round to changing the header of this blog that centers around indie lifestyle, clothing and fashion. Due to my busy schedule and frequent procrastination, I have been putting up with the theme header for a long time and I’m so glad it’s done now.

Last weekend, we gathered a few friends and went for an outdoor adventure in the forest. It was great fun! It reminded me of the indie lifestyle that I used to lead before becoming a parent. What’s even more cool was that we got together during the break and a talented musician friend was strumming the guitar with his indie songs.

Few of our friends enjoy their indie lifestyle and they are known for trekkers, creative artists and travelers. It was great to learn about their expeditions in all their indie travels. One of them is a physical trainer who is always seen with his Kettlebell dumbbells but he had so much to share regarding his indie travels in Asia.
