These days, people are going for wireless connection to get information no matter where they are. Even those in the indie fashion industry are reaching out to the media via social networking and you simply can’t reach your customers easily without technology!

Whenever I’m out in the cafes, I will whip out my iPhone and checked out the latest news in town. I get lots of indie fashion updates and finding out where else to read fashion news. I know that people are actually shopping online with their mobiles… I mean, how mobile and high tech can one be in the 21st century! In the past, I used to carry a camcorder when I attend fashion shows and with today’s high tech gadgets, I only need my iPhone or my digital camera.

Well, I’m searching for new ideas for my indie fashion store this week. Somehow, it’s hard to find the right items to promote as there aren’t many indie labels in the worldwide web. I hope that there will be more indie designers coming on board to the fashion scene and share their passion in life to others.

Valentine’s day is just a fortnight away. This is another season for people to show their love and appreciation to those they care so much. Sometimes gifts need not be bought. You can be creative and be your own indie designer and try designing your own gifts. It doesn’t have to be hard at all.

There are those who often have issues with time. Yes, it does take time to create something with your hands, even if it’s just designing your own Valentine’s day card. I received a nice surprise a couple of weeks before the New Year. My hubby bought me an iPhone for my belated birthday and I was thrilled! After speaking a few indie friends of mine, I found out that they have been loyal users of this cool smartphone and one was even talking about creating an indie fashion application in the near future.

With thanks to technology, indie fashion has been more prominent now. More indie designers are promoting their designs and creations through online technology via blogs and websites. You can now buy handmade things from sites like Etsy and this helps to encourage the efforts of the indie design community. What’s great to know is that many of these designers and artists are stay at home moms or individuals from many parts of the world. The indie movement will continue to grow with this continuous support. Even a motorcycle accident attorney friend of mine is shopping at these design sites for more unique and exclusive finds.

Who knows, I may look into some indie fashion designs of my own in the near future when I find more time to fulfill my dreams and goals. Be an indie design supporter.

I have finally got round to changing the header of this blog that centers around indie lifestyle, clothing and fashion. Due to my busy schedule and frequent procrastination, I have been putting up with the theme header for a long time and I’m so glad it’s done now.

One other addition to the indie fashion store is the ‘fashion tees‘ category which features unique and artistic t-shirts for adults and kids from Uneetee. I stumbled upon the fashion tees when I was doing my research nutrition and weight loss pills. The tees are different, psychedelic, punk, arty and cool. When it comes to indie fashion, the topic covers from the cover for the head to the bottom of the soles. And as far as footwear goes, the Doc Marten, Converse sneaker and Vans are Indie cool. So are vintage shoes, the older the better, and if they have a hole in them so much the better. Adidas, Jimmy Choos and Vera Wangs are not acceptable. Jeans must be naturally distressed.

If you want to distress your own jeans don’t let anyone know you did. This can be done simply with a pair of nail scissors and a bottle of bleach. A pencil skirt is a must-have in any Indie girls wardrobe, but it must be printed with a picture of ChÈ Guevarra. But these days, a budding designer or artist t-shirt fits that description of being indie cool too!

This particular genre is a non-conformist type of lifestyle, to my way of thinking it is much like emo, but I suppose any true Indie, would soon set me straight on that point. Even some home hand dryers I saw in one exhibition displays an indie and artistic look. The name is an abbreviation of “Independent” his respect, music an movies have to be of the same genre. Nothing in the mainstream belongs!

Typically the Indie person is unpredictable, yet cool and you won’t find them voted for as the King and Queen of the prom, this would betray their uniqueness, and shirking of conventions.

In my line of work, I get to meet all kinds of people and on one occasion, I had a learning session with a few Mesothelioma doctors who shared with me the facts of mesothelioma. This is something many people aren’t familiar about and I am glad to gain some understanding from these professionals.

So back to the feature for this post. My son has recently been talking to me about buying a cute raincoat for him. Though I know the request has nothing to do with the weather, I still did some search to satisfy his asking. Last weekend, we gathered a few friends and went for an outdoor adventure in the forest. It was great fun! It reminded me of the indie lifestyle that I used to lead before becoming a parent. What’s even more cool was that we got together during the break and a talented musician friend was strumming the guitar with his indie songs.

Few of our friends enjoy their indie lifestyle and they are known for trekkers, creative artists and travelers. It was great to learn about their expeditions in all their indie travels. One of them is a physical trainer who is always seen with his Kettlebell dumbbells but he had so much to share regarding his indie travels in Asia.

I had a gathering with some old friends couple of months ago and a session like that brought back memories of how I used to adorn myself in indie clothing when I was a young adult.

At that time, indie clothing wasn’t that popular but being a design student, I got alot of inspiration from the students in the fashion department, which were always churning out creative works for their fashion shows. I did try to sew my own blouse at one time but never got round to finishing it! I am so glad that it is so easy to shop for indie clothing and fashion online these days. In the late 80s where girls were wanting to stay so slim and started going on diet, this trend is still seen among many young girls. Well, appetite suppressants aren’t bad if you have an obese problem but everything should be done with great care. But you are dieting to fit into those cool clothes, don’t bother.
