Indie Fashion Movement Growing 0

Posted on January 13, 2010 by dorischua

I received a nice surprise a couple of weeks before the New Year. My hubby bought me an iPhone for my belated birthday and I was thrilled! After speaking a few indie friends of mine, I found out that they have been loyal users of this cool smartphone and one was even talking about creating an indie fashion application in the near future.

With thanks to technology, indie fashion has been more prominent now. More indie designers are promoting their designs and creations through online technology via blogs and websites. You can now buy handmade things from sites like Etsy and this helps to encourage the efforts of the indie design community. What’s great to know is that many of these designers and artists are stay at home moms or individuals from many parts of the world. The indie movement will continue to grow with this continuous support. Even a motorcycle accident attorney friend of mine is shopping at these design sites for more unique and exclusive finds.

Who knows, I may look into some indie fashion designs of my own in the near future when I find more time to fulfill my dreams and goals. Be an indie design supporter.

Indie, Cool and Unique T-Shirts 0

Posted on August 30, 2009 by dorischua

It is always an inspiration for me to see budding designers showcasing their works and creativity in art fairs and such. During my last trip to Singapore, I noticed a growing trend of creative t-shirt designers among the young designers and it was a good thing. The indie fashion industry is also growing as more teens and younger generation express themselves through artistic designs and creative pieces.

I was asked to shop for some urban, cool and unique t-shirts for a friend who is organizing an appreciation party for her art students. Without any doubt, I headed to the website of Uneetee which launches new t-shirt designs every Monday. Thus, you can always get new looks, new styles and designs if you are looking something different. I onced bought a cool t-shirt from the website and presented it to a friend in DNA testing studies… what a break from the traditional t-shirts on the racks!

So for cool t-shirts that are indie, creative and unique, check out the new t-shirt design every Monday!

Indie Clothing At Australia Flea Markets 0

Posted on July 15, 2009 by dorischua

Whenever I travel to Australia or New Zealand, I’ll make it a point to visit the local Sunday or flea markets in the suburbs or city area. The flea markets in the Pacific tend to be very fun, creative and local. I used to purchase indie clothing, food and lots of other handmade accessories from those flea markets.

Indie artists are in aplenty in Australia and New Zealand and I was privileged to meet many of them. I have lots of respect for these creative and independent individuals as they have strong passion in what they do. I recalled meeting this lovely old lady who sold water color paintings at St Kilda’s beach in Melbourne… she was a real talent at her late seventies! Some of the most beautiful indie clothing were sold by home makers and you can also find other cool indie finds by the disabled community. Some of them made their living by selling their creations at these flea markets to support themselves and covering their own disability insurance costs.

Sometimes indie products may cost a little more and that’s because you don’t get another piece in the same design and style. In other words, they are unique and exclusive. Support indie.

Leading an indie lifestyles sure requires some creativity and boldness. Creativity is defined in many ways and the common answer to that would be thinking out of the box or having variations.

pondering over ethical fashion and indie works 0

Here it’s back to thinking of a niche for this indie blog and I’ve been pondering over indie fashion and ethical clothing since it’s related to the indie concept of free expression and creativity.

These days, people are talking about green travel and ethical practices. Even when it comes to finding the best accomodation deals for a destination, these factors are part of the selection process. Whether you plan to stay in extended stay hotels or holiday homes, green travel or indie travel allows you to meet more locals and absorb the local culture during your travel.

Ethical clothing opens up new channels of fair practices for those with hand skills and good craftsmanship. It may be just the right time for me to launch a new nice on the subject of ethical designs, indie works and artisan craftsmanship.

indie clothing helps to save 0

Who wouldn’t like to jump on special offers and discount promotions? When I heard that there is an indie clothing sale going on in the neighbour, I was up early in the morning for the activity.

I love shopping in indie markets and fairs cos most of the exhibited products are as original as they can be. Though you may not buy them on Sale but you know they are original and you won’t catch anyone wearing the same top as you when you walk down the streets.

Indie clothing can be unique and creative and usually, they are crafted with alot of care and thoughts. Amidst the talk on credit and budget, it’s probably good to go indie and avoid spending on expensive items in the malls.

green living + indie clothing 0

I’m getting so exasperated from finding the righ niche for this blog. It looks like I may settle for indie fashion or something along the eco friendly line since many indie artists are great supporters of eco living.

Green style, green living, indie living, indie style – they all seem to belong together. I came across this great green lifestyle site and many of the green clothing are designed by indie artists. Their love for the environment combined with their creativity sets high standards for indie fashion.

If you like to see more of green lifestyle clothing and stuff with a touch of indie, check it out right here. For more, it’s back to my wireless security systems research for our new office… the weekends are coming!

be indie this valentine 0

It’s Valentine’s day today! how are you celebrating this hearty occasion?

As much as I think many retailers have commercialized it, it is good to take time to show our love and appreciation to those we treasure. Our family has decided to go simple this year. We decide to go indie! Instead of expensive dinners and gifts, we decide to make each other some simple indie gifts, cook a homemade dinner and enjoy a nice movie together since we just got a new plasma tv which is now sitting nicely on the plasma mount.

Perhaps, you can design or choose some indie gifts instead of those mass produced ones. How about creating your own painting or be your own indie designer. With some thoughts and efforts, everyone can indeed be an indie designer.

indie designer and artistic watches 0

Years ago, I was caught up in this Swatch watches thatI was buying up all the artistic collection and seasonal launches that are designed by indie artists. As a designer, I find it very inspiring to admire the watch designs by various designers from time to time.

Though I don’t wear them anymore, I still look out for impressive art collections and indie designs by this watch maker. What’s cool about it is some of these indie designer watches are packaged in artistic packaging that are too nice to be stuffed in the cabinet.

starting an indie music and arts store 0

Posted on January 22, 2009 by dorischua

In just one week’s time, we are into the second month of 2009 – how fast! I believe most people are still working out on their new year resolutions and the ladies are probably finding out ways to get in shape like reading about diet stuff, female fat burner and fitness plans.

As for me, I’m thinking about launching an indie music store in months to come. It will be great to promote indie music and encourage more indie artists to share their talents to those who appreciate indie music and art. As such, I’ll be researching into this area in the next few months and gather the resources to help me get started.
