Kids and Toys 0

Posted on February 02, 2011 by dorischua

These days, kids are so spoilt with thousands on toys on the toy shelves in the departmental store. And somehow kids can never get enough of toys, don’t they?

I recalled having a handheld game when I was twelve years old and that was after months of pestering my mom. My friend’s kids have all kinds of electronic gadgets from playstation 3 to gameboys. These days, children are busy with their parent’s iPhones and iPads and sometimes I wonder what will come next. I still prefer my child to play with some old fashioned toys every now and then. Lego bricks are good for their creativity development skills and it will improve their motor skills too.

Parenting Woes 0

Keeping an active preschooler occupied is my major task every day now and sometimes I am just so tired.

Parenting is rewarding and can be fun but there are days where I feel like taking a break and being ‘free’ from the noises and demands. My little one is asking for a new set of halloween costume this year as he is getting tired of his spiderman suit. I have thought about making one for him but I’ve been too busy! Then we would need to get adult halloween costumes for ourselves just to add in the fun of the party.

Looking at the bright side, children grow up so fast and the best thing to do is to enjoy them while you can. So with that in mind, my burdens seem lighter and I’ll be happier :)

Shopping for Kids Clothing 0

Posted on July 07, 2010 by dorischua

Since becoming a parent six years ago, I have begun to pay closer attention to kids’ clothing. It surprises me that clothing for kiddies are trendier and more fashionable than those for the grown-ups!

Last week, I placed an order for a few pieces of kids apparel from one of my favourite kids’ store – Dpam.com – they have some of the coolest and most hip clothing for little ones. I couldn’t helped but ended up with more than 100 euros worth of kids apparel cos the online store was offering free shipping during this sale period. What was even better was the prompt delivery and within five days, I had already received the order. How efficient is that!

The online store is having a one-day free shipping today and there are hundreds, if not thousands of items on sale. Now that I had done my shopping, it’s time to check out acne treatments that work on behalf of a friend. I guess I can never get enough of web information with today’s fast internet connectivity.

Parenting and Growing Up 0

My dears son has been complaining to me that his friends are teasing him about his small stature. I felt sorry for him and comforted him with the assurance that it’s only a matter of time that he will grow and catch up.

As parents, we love to see our kids thrive in every area, whether it’s physical health or academic studies. Life skills should be emphasized in today’s modern world and this involves lots of dedicated guidance. I have put in lots of efforts to keep my son in good health and it can be frustrating when he often comes home with sniffles. Mixing around with other kids in school means the exposure to more germs and viruses. Though I can’t stop that, I can only do my part to keep him in prime health. Some friends suggested the use of protein powder to grow but I just think it might be better to wait till he is older.

Parenting is rewarding but it can also bring tears and pain, challenges and struggles along the way. But because the kids grow so fast, it’s better to treasure every moment spent with them.

Making Homemade Games 0

Posted on March 31, 2010 by dorischua

My son is at that age where he just can’t sit still and he needs lots of activities to occupy him. Whenever we are out in the shops, he will pester me to bring him to the toy store. It’s hard to keep him quiet unless he’s preoccupied with something interesting.

Kids these days are so fortunate that they can have a wide array of games and activities within their reach. It’s easy to spot a child with an iPod or a iTouch. Otherwise, it will be a PSP or a Wii at home. Some of these games are great for fostering the family closeness while some will just isolate the child as he just focus on a single activity. I recalled my childhood where I enjoyed playing on foosball tables with my brother. Though it was more a boyish game but I found it fun and entertaining. There were other homemade games we played with and we even made our own pin ball table!

As I reminisce my childhood, I find myself missing some of these traditional games that aren’t commonly seen anymore. Maybe we parents need to go back to the basics and make our children some homemade games.

Featuring: UglyFish Organics Girls Coat 0

Posted on October 03, 2009 by dorischua

This weekend, I will be featuring some products from the Indie Fashion Store. Many of these indie products are designed by eco friendly designers who embrace quality as well as environmental responsibility principles.

In my line of work, I get to meet all kinds of people and on one occasion, I had a learning session with a few Mesothelioma doctors who shared with me the facts of mesothelioma. This is something many people aren’t familiar about and I am glad to gain some understanding from these professionals.

So back to the feature for this post. My son has recently been talking to me about buying a cute raincoat for him. Though I know the request has nothing to do with the weather, I still did some search to satisfy his asking. This UglyFish Organics Girls Coat caught my eye when I did my search online at the Indie Fashion Store.

Here’s a little info about the designer, UglyFish Organics: The designers are made a group of wild, optimistic people who love their work, laugh loudly, and keep their kids up past bedtime to play Rock Band. If you like to dress your kids up in beautiful clothes and let them get rumpled, then you will be sharing the same interests as the designers at UglyFish. Their clothing is durable and creative. Each of the pieces is crafted from eco-friendly materials under fair manufacturing conditions right here in the USA.

design your own children’s shoes 0

Posted on June 07, 2008 by dorischua

It has been a very busy week at work which explains why I haven’t posted for a week! I managed to catch up with a friend who wants to have a chat on car insurance comparison with me before we started discussing about this cool online store for children’s shoes.

I like the tagline: Preschoolians Children’s Shoes – Where Bare Foot is Best. What’s really cool about it is you can actually design your children’s shoes at the online store. First, you choose the style, next comes the sole and then the colour. With so many cute and lovely styles like ballerina, mary jane, sports fusion, singing in the rain and alot more! I thought this is a great idea and it’s definitely a real fun thing to ‘design a pair of nice shoes’ for your little ones. Besides, they make great gift ideas for baby showers and birthdays too! Hmmm… I’m shopping for my a duvet cover for my little boy’s bedding. He’s now into space, planes and rockets so this cute one at Wrapables caught my attention.  This Twin Duvet Cover Set includes one twin size duvet cover (86″ x 63″) featuring a pattern of planets and rocketships, and one pillow sham (30″ x 23″, 2″ flange) with an astronaunt in space. All bedding is machine washable and dryable. Do you know that it is made to Öko-Tex environmental standards, a European certification process which ensures that certified textiles do not contain chemicals harmful to human health. There are many other cool and cute duvet cover sets if space exploring is not your kids’ delight.

One of the nicest things to do is to shop for girl’s dresses and clothing. As a little girl, I love to dress up paper dolls and design little paper clothing for my paper dolls. Even now, I get excited when my niece’s birthday is around the corner cos that gives me another excuse to shop for sweet dresses and cute girl’s accessories. Read the rest of this entry →
