Indie Fashion Talk 0

Posted on March 07, 2010 by dorischua

These days, people are going for wireless connection to get information no matter where they are. Even those in the indie fashion industry are reaching out to the media via social networking and you simply can’t reach your customers easily without technology!

Whenever I’m out in the cafes, I will whip out my iPhone and checked out the latest news in town. I get lots of indie fashion updates and finding out where else to read fashion news. I know that people are actually shopping online with their mobiles… I mean, how mobile and high tech can one be in the 21st century! In the past, I used to carry a camcorder when I attend fashion shows and with today’s high tech gadgets, I only need my iPhone or my digital camera.

Well, I’m searching for new ideas for my indie fashion store this week. Somehow, it’s hard to find the right items to promote as there aren’t many indie labels in the worldwide web. I hope that there will be more indie designers coming on board to the fashion scene and share their passion in life to others.

Introducing Indie Lifestyle in the Fashion Store 0

I just put up a new indie lifestyle category in the Indie Fashion Store and in it, you will find contemporary furniture pieces like the infamous LoveSac, which is a favourite among those who want to relax in comforts.

$649.00
After a hard day’s work, all I want is to put up my legs, have a sip of cuppa and spend time with my children. A LoveSac is great cos we can slumber together on the huge beanbag couch and watch a good show together, even if it’s a children’s show! For me, it’s not so much of the show but the meaning behind this intimate time spent, it’s quality time, as you may like.

You can also find various kinds of modern furniture that can entice you to a relaxation mode after a long day. Beanbags are great to have but if not, a few cushions spread around the floor space can be nice and cosy too. Don’t forget to check out what it is to enjoy an Indie Lifestyle at our store!

Working on this Indie Lifestyle Blog 0

Today is the first day of the second month for 2010 – wow, has one month passed already? I’m feeling a little guilty cos I haven’t got much done in the last 31 days! This year, I am going to put in more efforts into this indie lifestyle blog and include in more useful resources for my readers.

I have been hearing news that the economy is picking up and it’s good for all of us. This means the jobless rates will decrease and people will have better lives… hopefully. Retail business should also pick up and things are generally going to be more rosy for families and workforce. 2009 has been challenging and everyone is looking forward to a better year in 2010. I do hope that there is more employment opportunities in the coming months and this will be good news for those who have been facing difficulties with work in the last year.

So I’ll be digging for more Indie lifestyle resources and you will see them happening in the near future. Stay tuned!

Valentine’s day is coming and it’s a time where lovers and couples exchange gifts, showing their love and appreciation to one another. If you are looking for special gifts that are close to an indie lifestyle, some couple gifts below will be good considerations.

I remembered my husband used to buy me skin care and beauty products since he knows very little about indie fashion. He will spend hours reading reviews and browsing in the web to find out what makes a good gift. One year, he read some iQ derma reviews and bought me some creams for my allergic skin! OK, back to some Valentine’s gift ideas for couples, here are some nice gifts to look at… you will like them if you have been leading an indie lifestyle. They may not be handmade but the creative and minimalist designs are truly sleek and hip:

All Mac techies out there…. I would like to share a discovery with you. Whatever that is handmade and represent an indie lifestyle, you got me all ears! So if you are a Macbook or iPhone user, or if you have an iPod, you would like to check out these cool handmade sleeves from down under.

When I have some free time, I like to search and browse indie shopping sites such as Etsy, where you can find lots of handmade stuff by independent designers who have a passion for art and design. These individuals have maximize their potential by using their creativity to earn extra income at home. Foofshop is the place to shop for some cool handmade iPhone and MacBook sleeves for your gadgets. Made from quality material, they are affordable and come in various designs and colors. What I like about them is that they are handmade which means quality and quantity are both controlled.

Sometimes I hope to pick up a craft, not so much to profit from the skill but rather to share my love for indie lifestyle to all the people out there. If you possess a skill or talent, it’s probably the time to explore and maximize your potential.

Shopping at Indie Sunday Markets 0

The term slow travel has been very popular among the indie community of late. Well, I just got back from a 2 weeks vacation and it felt slow travel for me this trip. I stayed with the locals and did things that locals do – slow and easy. As much as I want it to be part of an indie lifestyle, I couldn’t do that due to contraints.

It was however tiring to be traveling with a young child who was constantly demanding for attention. Infact, it was natural fat burner for me, keeping him busy and occupying him with activities. I managed to steal some time to the Sunday markets at Broadbeach on the last day in Gold Coast. It was a small Sunday market with some very local stuff. I bought a beaded necklace from an indie designer (emubeads.com) and totally love it. I only shop for local and indie stuff when I am in markets like that. Many of them make their own foodstuff including macadamia nuts and honey. It was nice strolling along the stores, if only I had more time!

Well, now that I’m back, I find myself missing the indie stores at the markets. I should have bought a few more beaded necklace from Emubeads… she was indeed a talented indie artist. I can’t wait to be back at the Gold Coast again… particularly broadbeach.

Indie Lifestyle and Slow Travel 0

With many people traveling this coming holiday season, there are tips to make your holiday a fun filled and hassle-free one. For people who embrace an indie lifestyle, there are places that are good for slow and eco travel.

Hiking or camping can be a good and inexpensive way to travel. It used to be popular among outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers but these days, indie travelers are following the trend too. Families tend to choose Outer Banks beach rentals and enjoy family fun together by doing more relaxing things. Indie travelers prefer freedom and space, flexibility and something off the beaten path. Getting to know the locals and indulging into the culture is something most independent travelers look for. After all, you want to reminisce and carry a tale about an unique culture to your friends after a holiday. It brings memories in years to come and your travel photos will speak volumes of your culture immersion.

Well, you don’t need to be leading an indie lifestyle to choose slow travel. All it takes it a prepared mind, a passion to learn about a new culture, an open mind and an adventurous free spirit to take you to places and experiences you have never encountered.
