Going for Lasik Eye Surgery 0

Posted on July 14, 2010 by dorischua

After a long consideration, I have decided to go for lasik eye surgery next month. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old and I just think that it’s about time to lay off my glasses.

I used to think that the indie look doesn’t go too well with glasses but with today’s trend in glasses, this is not true anymore. Whenever I visit my optician, she’s always showing me the new designs and some of them are just tad too cool! The store even set up a facebook fan page for their clients so that they can update them on new styles in the store. You can’t afford not to move along with technology if you want to succeed in business today. You can even buy diet pills online these days – how convenient is that!

Tomorrow, I’ll be off to the lasik eye centre to check if I’m suitable for lasik treatment. It won’t be long that I can say goodbye to those cool glasses. Then, I’ll be shopping for sunglasses next!

The New Culture and Indie Lifestyle 0

Posted on July 05, 2010 by dorischua

I’ve been asked to read up some articles on being a minimalist and it seems to fit into the indie lifestyle.

Since I got my iPhone, it has been a great companion and it helps to connect me to my family and friends, near and far. It’s hard to come across someone who doesn’t have a mobile phone these days. Even grandmas and grandpas have cell phones that help them connect with their children and grand kids. It’s amazing how technology is changing the way we live our lives. During a family gathering some months, I caught up with my nieces and nephews and they were updating me with all kinds of iphone accessories. It seems that the younger generation are more well informed and they are so well versed with technology revolution.

With this change and emergence of a new future, I am curious to see how the indie lifestyle can blend well with the new culture.

Indie Lifestyle and Growing Up 0

My good friend had just returned from a vacation in Geneva and she was sharing about the fun times she had. Being an indie traveler with enjoys an indie lifestyle, she used to sew and design her own clothes when she was a teenager. Looking back, we just reallized we are not getting any younger!

Often times, we look after and realize that time passes us by so quick. And it seems like yesterday that I became a new mom and I could remember how conscientious I was with my one a day prenatal vitaminswhen I was expecting. Now, my son is turning six in a few months’ time. Since becoming a mom, keeping an indie lifestyle hasn’t been possible cos there are far more responsibilities I have to shoulder now.

Hopefully I can still enjoy more of my me-time where I can do my indie things and lead that lifestyle I had when my junior grows up. By then, I might have a new set of worries to think about…

Shopping and Eating Time 0

Summer sale is on in some of my favourite hunts and I’m hoping to find some indie clothing in my shopping spree next week. With so many big brands and fashion labels emerging, there are lots of mass produced clothing in the stores but I still prefer some indie labels that are unique and creative.

There’s a favourite shop called Womb that I love. The clothing has an artistic twist to it and every design only comes in a few pieces. Whenever I’m visiting the store, I always end up with a few items which sometimes bring the guilt out of me! Besides shopping in my favourite store, I would head to my favourite cafe for a good roast beef sandwich which reminds me that I need to get some weightloss products for a friend.

Eating and shopping are both my favourite past times and I can’t think of anything more relaxing than these when I’m on a vacation. Let’s hope I don’t go overboard and end up with too much to carry at the end of the four days’ trip!

House Hunting for Down Under 0

Posted on May 20, 2010 by dorischua

With toady’s powerful online technology, it’s easy to access all kinds of information from the comforts of your home. So for the last few weeks, I have been checking out some real estate sites and finding out more about property rentals in down under.

There are so many different kinds of housing in Queensland. You have townhouses, queenslander homes, villas, low set homes and high set ones. It is advisable to view and inspect a potential rental home personally as you may want to check the condition of the house. Personally I hope to rent a newer property as I’m particular about old carpets or flooring. Homes built decades ago may give rise to mold and dust mites problems if the house hasn’t been cleaned regularly. I’m even more paranoid after reading about mesothelioma prognosis.

House hunting will be a tiring task in few months’ time but for now, let my fingers do the walking and searching as I prepare myself for the big move.

Searching for Books Online 0

It is so easy to find a good book to read these days. With so many online stores, you can order a book from the comforts of your home and have it delivered to your doorstep, it’s so convenient.

There are still many who prefer to shop and read books in the typical bookstore. Searching for books at a glance is still preferred by some who find it cumbersome to search for books online. You can also look at Amazon books and find out what’s on for special and save on your books purchases. What I really like about Amazon is that you can find many hard-to-get books which may not be easily available in your neighbour bookstore.

Searching for indie books has become much easier with today’s online technology. Don’t you agree?

A Day In My Life 0

For many years, exercise has been integral in our lives. My hubby wakes up very early in the morning to get his exercise and being an early riser, he gets lots done for the day. As for me, waking up early is obligatory for I need to get ready my preschooler for school.

Regular exercise is beneficial for the body. I tend to feel more energetic and motivated, breaking off from the sluggishness of a tired body. When I’m in Pilates, I was taught some ab workouts which I could practice at home. It takes discipline just to clock up a half hour of exercise each day. Afternoons are spent in the home office as I try to get more done before little junior comes home. Thus, I dislike meetings as they tend to take up too much of my productive hours.

After dinner, we like to sit down and relax over a cup of coffee in our comfortable and luxurious LoveSac. It is so nice when you can sit back and slumber on the oversized bean bag while watching your favourite movie. As you do that, you can only be thankful that life is just so good. Share the love a gift from LoveSac.com for your loved ones. Click here for great gift ideas!

What’s Your Definition of Being Indie 0

Posted on March 15, 2010 by dorischua

Everyone has their own definition of being indie. For me, it means being individual, personal and ‘free’ without being tied to a particular trend or style.

These days, I have been learning more about living an eco friendly lifestyle. I learn to make my own home cleaner using fruit peels and have been reading about making my own facial masks! It is always interesting to know more about living naturally without harmful chemicals. Regardless of your lifestyle choices, you too can choose an eco friendly one and do your part for Mother earth. You can look for biodegradable household cleaners for your home as they are safer and better for the environment. There are many manufacturers who have opted to go environmentally friendly, just like the Anilox cleaner, which is made of eco friendly ingredients.

So if you haven’t found a definition for being indie, one of the ideas would be to take the path of being more environmentally conscious.

Interiors Blending With Indie Lifestyle 0

Moving into a new house can be exciting, depending how you look at it. If you are into furnishing and home decorating, then you will enjoy the process of getting a place, furnishing it and designing it to your liking. Since different people embrace different styles, it all depends on your personality. Surely someone leading an indie lifestyle won’t choose designs that are conventional and old fashioned. You expect a free approach and creative input in the choice of colours and designs.

When we were furnishing our home ten years ago, we visited a few warehouse sales for our furniture and kitchen fixtures. We managed to purchase a couple of Franke sinks at superb prices and everything else was bought at a discount. We kept it as indie as possible with some DIY touches on furnishings. Simplicity was our focus and we decided to keep it as clean and friendly as possible.

In less than a year’s time, we would need to furnish our second home. Hopefully I can find some artisan collections during the decorating process since we like to continue our indie lifestyle. Bringing indie touches to a home can be real fun when you are open to look at the options out there.

Indie Fashion Talk 0

Posted on March 07, 2010 by dorischua

These days, people are going for wireless connection to get information no matter where they are. Even those in the indie fashion industry are reaching out to the media via social networking and you simply can’t reach your customers easily without technology!

Whenever I’m out in the cafes, I will whip out my iPhone and checked out the latest news in town. I get lots of indie fashion updates and finding out where else to read fashion news. I know that people are actually shopping online with their mobiles… I mean, how mobile and high tech can one be in the 21st century! In the past, I used to carry a camcorder when I attend fashion shows and with today’s high tech gadgets, I only need my iPhone or my digital camera.

Well, I’m searching for new ideas for my indie fashion store this week. Somehow, it’s hard to find the right items to promote as there aren’t many indie labels in the worldwide web. I hope that there will be more indie designers coming on board to the fashion scene and share their passion in life to others.
