Have you started to shop for Mother’s day? I received a promotional email on some mother’s day gifts this morning and that reminded me that the occasion is just a few weeks’ away!
If you are planning to buy mom a gift, how about getting her an eco friendly organic cotton top for a change? Modern moms would like this cute Bird’s Nest Top made of 100% organic cotton. The designer, Mika Machida uses silkscreen as her main medium to create fashion that does on harm soil, water, and nature. In this mass-production society it is rather hard to find items that are purely organic and produced in sustainable way. I believe mom will love this original and natural look that bring out the best of her.
I was going to suggest to another friend of mine who is working as a job search pa personnel. She loves organic cotton tops and everything about her is natural and organic. I’m sure she would love the look of this Bird’s Nest top by Mika Machida. This top pairs well with jeans, slacks, a long A-line skirt or tights!

It’s been a while since I started bringing my own reusable bags when I’m out shopping. It feels good to know that I am doing my part for the environment even in this little manner. Then I began to grow interest in organic cotton clothing for my son who has sensitive skin and once again, it’s back to the web where I got more info.
If your child has sensitive skin, then you may want to take a good at organic cotton clothing too. Organic kids clothing usually use soy-based inks for printed colors and graphics. Cotton grown in a certified organic farm is used for these organic clothing. I do agree that they are dearer compared to normal kids clothing. But going organic is one way to support eco living principles if you can afford it. Thankfully, more designers are jumping onto the organic and eco bandwagon which can bring down the prices of these clothing.
For so others, going organic in everything is as important as getting a life insurance coverage for the entire family. Doctors have encouraged organic food eating for sickly patients and some others have found their health improving after switching to organic skin care. For me, it’s important to do it when you are comfortable about it, especially on the issue of affordability. It’s really a matter of priority at the end of the day.

For a long time, I have been a faithful user of organic and natural skincare and some of these natural products are made by independent herbalists who take great pride and care in designing a product for skin health.
I know there are some who do not believe about the use of organic skin care but it’s down to an individual preference at the end of the day. What works best for one may not work for another. Personally, I like the idea of using skin care that does not contain harmful ingredients that are bad for my skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body and it is constantly absorbing what you apply on it. Some of the organic products are owned by small indie beauty owners and thus quality is ensured. The skin care is also produced in smaller quantities to ensure efficacy and freshness. Whether you are searching for acne skin care or the best eye cream, I’m sure you can search for a good organic product online.
Many indie followers are also environmentally conscious which led them to embrace the philosophies of organic and natural skin care products. So the next time you went shopping in your local markets, do stop by and give those handmade and homemade stuff another fresh look.

In the last post, we featured UglyFish Organics and their fun philosophy when it comes to designing kiddies fashion. Honestly, I still like the cool name of this brand and it complements what Indie Fashion is all about in the world of creativity.

For a long time, I am a big fan of nice cool indie bags and this post, I would like to feature Urth Bags for the travel bugs. All my friends know that I am a great supporter of health travel and I’m also particular about choosing the right bags when I go on vacation. So who is Urth Bags and what are they known for? For the environmentally friendly individuals, you will appreciate UrthBags as each bag is made from recycled or biodegradable materials. Local craftsmen are used in the creation of each unique bag, instead of shipping things around. UrthBags strives to spread the word about eco-mindedness, recycling and reusing in the all-too-often disposable fashion industry.

While searching for indie fashion designers, I came across a few eco living online stores that focus on promoting eco natural fashion and products as well as environmentally friendly home accessories.
It’s impressive to note that there are more indie designers who embrace eco living principles in their practices and many of them are also supporting fair trade communities and organic principles. Indie jewelry designers are also exploring on their creativity with recycled materials and the end results can be inspiring and alluring. Novica is a great place to source for indie designer products including clothing, jewelry , homeware, paintings, art pieces and more. A friend of mine was searching for diamond engagement rings and stumbled on some cool creations from indie designers and artists.
The world of indie design is continuing to grow and in no time, more budding designers and artists will continue to join in the fold.

Everyone is riding on the Earth Hour hype this week and what is your take about this? The indie community has long been doing their bit to save the earth but producing environmentally friendly products.
There are many indie designers who work on recycled materials and using them to create pieces of art and unique designs. You can see them everywhere now from an online etsy store to an offline flea market. Indie designers are getting more talented as technology emerges. You can buy netbooks covers and skins designed by indie artists and handmade jewelry by indie designers at Etsy. Though some may cost a little more, you can be rest assured that your design purchases are attached with a touch of uniqueness and individuality.
Support indie.

I was pointed to check out Beautifeel, a shoe label and it just occurred to me that there are more and more entrepreneurs in the online shopping industry today. Not sure if you notice but indie fashion and indie labels is growing in popularity towards the mainstream fashion movements too. What’s encouraging is that these indie labels have even made it to the catwalk and created a greater awareness among fashionistas and trendsetters.
Personally I do hope that online shopping for indie labels and label fashion will grow since the internet is the fastest way to reach the masses. For unique handcrafted jewelry, handmade, unique art vases, handcrafted jewelery, handcrafted beaded jewelry, unique handcrafted home products or handcrafted gifts, I like to shop at Novica, an online shop that represents artisans from all over the world. Shop Handmade Unique Art Vases by NOVICA Artist from Around the World here.

It arouses curiosity within me when I first came across this cute website – 29olives.com. Only launched last month, 29olives was launched by Erin Parker to support and promote small independent designers and artists. You can find fun, unique and whimsical products and items on the website carefully selected by Erin.
Besides a cute logo and friendly looking website design, I am attracted by 29olives’s eco-conscious philosophy of using recycled materials, reusing packaging from vendors and supporting artists who create environmentally sustainable goods.

This travel charm bracelet may be just the right gift for my adventurous seeking girl friend who is a big fan of new and used Harleys. It truly evokes the free spirited characteristics and charm for a travel gal like her!

I’ve been terribly busy in the last couple of weeks. Work is piling up during this time of year and I haven’t had much time to do my blogging. Besides, I have to help a friend who is looking for a bus for sale while booking our accommodation in advance for New Year’s eve.

But I haven’t forgotten that it’s Earth Day tomorrow and this is when I’m reminded by what I saw at Eka website few days ago. For those of you who live in Australasia, you may wanna clothe yourselves with one of these lovely Hayworth Beret and mittens set. Made of 90% acrylic 10% wool, they look absolutely gorgeous on a cold wintry outing, helping you to stay in style while keeping you warm.

I like the concept of Eka, especially after learning about its support towards fair trade communities which helps to promote eco-friendly fashion to the consumers. You can find a nice range of head gear, scarves and hats, iPod cases and laptop cases in the online store. This new hayworth beret is one pretty addition in the spring 08 collection. It’s currently out of stock so keep a lookout if you like to grab one in the coming weeks. I do hope that they can add more pouches and cases to their store for my CAT6, adaptors and wire cables.
