Men and women have differing interests and passions. My hubby enjoys talking about his golf trips and Callaway irons with his buddies and I’ll be sharing the stylish and trendy stuff I found in the web with my pals. This evening, I was introduced to Anne Maa Designs, a very talented fashion designer whose talents were not limited to fashion alone. Her combination of materials in her jewelry collection was elegant and modern, simple and creative. Actually her inspiration for her creations came from the texture, shape and colour of the materials she worked on, which led to a sense of individuality. Find her at http://www.annemaadesigns.com

While attending a talk on Los Angeles labia reduction procedure, my girl cousin happened to sit next to this lady who is a fan of indie stuff. And since my cousin knew about my penchant for indie accessories and clothing, she couldn’t wait to tell me more about her conversion with this lady. And that’s how I learnt about Poppytalk handmade. It’s always a thrill for me to discover new indie sites, businesses and blogs. When I came across manic trout, I was inspired of her creativity and artistic flair. She uses simple materials to create beautiful stuff and the result is a masterpiece, a one of a kind handmade accessory for the modern gal or the fashionista who prefers to stand out from the crowd and escape the lure of the latest trends in town. Before you think that these are just some ordinary silver jewelry. Well, look carefully – they are actually inspired by the fertility symbol of a male sperm! I find them so cute and playful. Found at Stitchpixie, each accessory is designed and handmade by Cyan, an artist from Vancouver, BC. She is heavily inspired by pop art and retro memorabilia, and she has a greater interest in fashioning unique designs rather than mass-producing the same piece.
You can tell that she combines punchy color with simplicity and function. Her Akimbo line of sterling earrings incorporates the earring functionality into the overall design for a sleek, aesthetically balanced feel. Her vegan-friendly vinyl pouches and wristlets deconstruct everyday images into simple di- or tri-chromatic works that tackle everything from mammalian reproduction to nature scenes. She is heavily inspired by pop art and retro memorabilia, and she has a greater interest in fashioning unique designs rather than mass-producing the same piece. Oh, need we read more! By the way, 10% of proceeds from stitchpixie.com go towards sponsoring a child named memory in zambia.

Charms are great keepsakes which are traditionally used as gifts for generations. They are fun, cute, feminine, cheerful and artistic.
I found these creative charm bracelets from Mau Studio that bring out the little girl in me. Most of them are made of glass beads and swarovski crystals, each piece is uniquely created with a distinctive style of its own. If bracelets are not your kind, there are necklaces, rings and earrings to choose from too.

This lady has a unselfish passion and from her story of how Mayu was started, I believe she has a heart for social work and helping others.
Kate Robertson works directly with women who live in a rural community that sits high in the Andes Mountains of whom are also blessed amazing artistic skills. Mayu was started to support them and their families and through Mayu, these women are given the opportunity to earn fair, liveable wages.

After looking at the lovely scarves, hoodies and other knitted accessories, I have to agree that Mayu is for the women who are sophisticated, fun and informal individuals who are socially conscious and looking for one-of-a-kind pieces. I don’t even know I can do this beautiful knot with a simple scarf like this… (http://www.shopmayu.com)

You can tell that I can never get enough of vintage jewelry. Just look at these from Day Lab. I find the name of the site pretty cool, it sort of spells the life of a indie designer.
But Day Lab is managed by Amy Shutt whom I can tell has a great sense of taste for vintage lovelies and creative jewelry creations. The unique items featured on day-lab are largely produced by independent designers and smaller companies. Amy takes time to search fo these eclectic finds as she envisions to make her online store a one-stop place for rare, unique jewelry, home items, accessories and novelties.
I have to say that this is a tough job especially when you need to set your store apart from the millions in the internet but Day Lab is niche. It is different, uncommon and artistically beautiful. Here are some great stuff from the online store…(http://www.day-lab.com)

A friend of mine from Singapore has just started a new business with her hubby since the start of the year. If you are a parent, you will find the party favours at Partridge Pear very enticing and impressive. After all, the birth of your baby is a nice announcement you like to share with families and friends. Being entrepreneurs, they are doing alot of work by themselves and I would classify them as indie business people anytime. The gift packages are of high quality at reasonable prices compared to many merchants. You should also check out their lovely premium photo cards and e-invites which can be customized specially for your little ones.
