Moving and Uprooting 0

Posted on April 30, 2010 by dorischua

Lately, I’ve been busy with real estate websites and updating myself with rental rates in Brisbane. Moving to another country involves lots of planning and decision making and timing is very important too.

When we move to a new ground, we would need to look into finding a place, getting medical information and acquiring other term life insurance too. I believe that when the time comes closer to the move, there’ll be more to do and I should start packing early to avoid getting into stressful moments. As much as I’m excited to explore a new place, I am equally concerned about settling down and starting afresh. I was told that down in the south, people are more artistic and there are more indie designers and I will soon enjoy the local flea market scene.

Who knows, I might enter into a new trade and learn a few new skills when I’ve got abit more time in a foreign land by then. I’m looking forward to the change.

Parenting and Growing Up 0

My dears son has been complaining to me that his friends are teasing him about his small stature. I felt sorry for him and comforted him with the assurance that it’s only a matter of time that he will grow and catch up.

As parents, we love to see our kids thrive in every area, whether it’s physical health or academic studies. Life skills should be emphasized in today’s modern world and this involves lots of dedicated guidance. I have put in lots of efforts to keep my son in good health and it can be frustrating when he often comes home with sniffles. Mixing around with other kids in school means the exposure to more germs and viruses. Though I can’t stop that, I can only do my part to keep him in prime health. Some friends suggested the use of protein powder to grow but I just think it might be better to wait till he is older.

Parenting is rewarding but it can also bring tears and pain, challenges and struggles along the way. But because the kids grow so fast, it’s better to treasure every moment spent with them.

Talking about the iPad 0

Yesterday, my friend showed me a video of a musician playing a nice piece of classical with the new iPad. It was impressive!

If you are a user of iPhone or iPad, you would know that there are several music applications that can be downloaded at a fee. The iPad allows the musicians to play better with the large fingering on the screen compared to the iPhone. With such amazing breakthrough in technology, more indie musicians can now compose music anywhere and anytime of the day. While searching on some product on hgh, I came across some cool videos on indie artists playing music with the help of technology. It’s definitely different from strumming a guitar or serenading with piano keys, but it’s definitely an interest way to play music.

Now, I’m waiting for the iPad to be launch in my home country. I think it’s a great media device for the indie community. It’s sure to bring a breakthrough in the lifestyle of the new generation!

Shopping for Beauty Products And More 0

I can never seem to get enough of beauty products shopping when I’m overseas. From cult labels to organic beauty care, I like to try out new range and items especially when they are made of natural ingredients.

When I was in Hong Kong, I love to drop by Lane Crawford as the store carries an interesting range of beauty and personal products. From organic to the most popular street label, you can find lots of new products for the beauty queen. For a long time, I can’t seem to find the best eye cream for dark circles and I’m still searching. Shopping in Hong Kong can be cheaper than China and that explains many tourists from the mainland are buying up the fashion and luxury labels when they are in Hong Kong. There is also a growing number of local designer labels in the last few years and their works do come with a price too.

My girl friend is in Paris now and I can’t wait for me to update me on her search for indie clothing in this beautiful city. And if possible, I hope to visit personally in the near future!

Nice Shopping In Hong Kong 0

It seems that whenever I’m on a vacation, time will pass extremely fast! In a twinkle of an eye, the vacation is over and I’m back to the realities of life!

My trip to Hong Kong was very nice and I did some good shopping. The food was good and I loved the culture, the surroundings and accessibility but I didn’t enjoy the pollution :) I managed to visit a nice fashion boutique called 45R which was very popular in Japan. The clothing was unpretentious, hip, classy and simply chic. It wasn’t cheap but the cut and design was nice. I wished I had time to visit the other boutique in Star Street but it was just too short a time to hunt for it.

I stayed in a nice serviced apartment that was well located near the MTR and even though there wasn’t any outdoor electric grills, it had some complimentary washing at the rooftop. That was a nice thing to have when you don’t have to bring too many clothing. The next time I visit Hong Kong, I will drop by Central to look for some indie fashion labels. Local designer stores are usually located at second or higher floors so it can be hard to find them. It looks like I would need to do more research next time.

Bird’s Nest Top Organic Cotton Top 0

Have you started to shop for Mother’s day? I received a promotional email on some mother’s day gifts this morning and that reminded me that the occasion is just a few weeks’ away!

If you are planning to buy mom a gift, how about getting her an eco friendly organic cotton top for a change? Modern moms would like this cute Bird’s Nest Top made of 100% organic cotton. The designer, Mika Machida uses silkscreen as her main medium to create fashion that does on harm soil, water, and nature. In this mass-production society it is rather hard to find items that are purely organic and produced in sustainable way. I believe mom will love this original and natural look that bring out the best of her.

I was going to suggest to another friend of mine who is working as a job search pa personnel. She loves organic cotton tops and everything about her is natural and organic. I’m sure she would love the look of this Bird’s Nest top by Mika Machida. This top pairs well with jeans, slacks, a long A-line skirt or tights!

So Much To Do Before Trip 0

Posted on April 14, 2010 by dorischua

The week is getting hectic with so many responsibilities piling up on my lap. More so, I will be away this coming Friday so I must get everything done before the trip. Though Hong Kong isn’t known for its indie stuff, I hope to pop by some little stores in the suburbs to check out what’s instore.

I am feeling so thankful for technology as I sit here in the office. Without it, it will take me hours to finish my work but technology has increased my productivity many times more. This morning, I managed to get some life insurance quotes for my boss before rushing off to a lunch appointment. I was going to meet up an indie designer friend who wanted to show me some new creations of hers but I just couldn’t find time.

If time allows, I am thinking of picking up a sewing class specializing in making totes and bags. I’m not planning to go commercial but it’s always nice to learn how to sew and design your own bags, isn’t it? I could use them as indie gifts during festive and there is so much personal touch to it! So it’s about finding the time to do it and pushing it to the priority list.

Home Decor At Home 0

It’s nice to head to the stores for some retail therapy when I need a break from things. That’s what I did last weekend. I went window shopping and though I didn’t ended up with any shopping bags, it was good to just have a look around and check out what’s in and around.

Furniture shopping is one of my favourite past times, so much as that I am always ask by friends to do them this favour. Shopping for office furniture can be boring for some but I like to visualize space and conceptualize a new space for the office. It is satisfying to see the results and witness the outcome. While it’s probably more fun to do this for the home, it’s nice to think of ways to make the office space a friendly and conducive one. Sometimes, I find that making my own picture frames can bring some life to the desk and adding a few art paintings can bring energy too.

This weekend, I’m going to do a few abstract paintings for my son’s room. It’s nice to give him a chance to doodle and see what his mind visualizes. I enjoy witnessing the concepts and interpretations of little minds.
