those who love handmade metal jewelry 0

Posted on October 31, 2008 by dorischua

Those who love metal jewelry or who like to work with metals can now visit Etsy Metal (http://etsymetal.com/) directly instead of searching in Etsy’s large directory of indie artists and designers. Being a designer myself, I support handmade products and original artwork and designs. If only I have the time, I would love to work on more crafts and metals like what I used to do before.

tree bark ring by Beth Cyr Jewelry – organic/metal

I used to be crazy about creating my own metal jewelry like how those bodybuilders get crazy over legal steroids. I recalled making my own wedding tiara with swarokski crystals and pearls, it was inspiring! Hopefully one day I can learn more about metal working techniques and create more indie designs and turn them into handmade gifts.

do check out novica 0

It doesn’t feel nice to have a cold on the weekends cos I find myself feeling tired and worn. I was going to check out some indie designers and artists for a holiday feature but I haven’t had the energy to do more than I want to!

My friend insists that I follow her to check out a dollar store franchise though I wish to pick out a few items at Novica. for my wedding store website. So bear with me as I recover and I’ll put up some indie finds next week when I’m up and running again. If you need to search for artistic finds, creative works and original crafts, don’t forget to check out the great collection at Novica.com.

try natural mineral makeup for free 0

Posted on October 24, 2008 by dorischua

We had a bereavement in the family last week and I was away for the weekend. I haven’t been to the shops for a while until yesterday. I had to shop for a baby shower gift so I managed to check out some baby bedding while out in the shops.

It feels good to know that the weekends is here. My makeup vanity area calls for a clean up as I clean up my mineral makeup on the table. Maybe it’s time to replenish my natural makeup collection too, just in time for the coming festives. Not sure if you ladies have tried natural mineral makeup cos if you haven’t you don’t know what you are missing! Using mineral makeup doesn’t have to be that hard. Besides being gentle and light on your face, it doesn’t clog pores which means your pores get to breathe! If you want to give natural mineral makeup a try for FREE, here is your chance.

seeing the world as an indie traveler 0

eco friendly trips

Indie travel can be nice, peaceful and enjoyable. It also allows the indie traveler to appreciate the real essence of a slow vacation without any interruption or disturbance. The indie traveler has all the flexibility and freedom of time – do whatever you want and like without worrying about seeking another traveler’s opinion… like all things, there are always pros and cons.

An indie traveler means you must be prepared to handle any mishaps or accidents alone. You cannot count on anyone to support you so I guess online social network may help in one way or another. The indie traveler can join several indie travel networks and connect with other travelers on the other side of the globe. Perhaps the solo or indie travelers won’t going for Disney vacations or theme parks. He will be more adventurous and trekking around with a backpack. Tour the whole of Europe and check in to backpackers inn. That’s where most indie travelers are found and it’s also a good way to begin new friendships.

meeting an indie fashion designer 0

A fellow indie designer friend was just sharing to me about his personal experience in a rc helicopter and I thought it sounded like fun!

Well, as the week draws closer to an end, I’m packed up to leave for my hometown over the weekends. This weekend, I will have the privilege to meet a indie fashion designer who is known for her re-engineered tees. She integrates oriental designs and motifs onto t shirt casuals and tops. I’m hoping to visit her fashion art gallery since she’s got a fashion sale going. I always like Oriental themed clothing that are modern and chic and Vivienne Lin from Fuchsia Lane does it so well. Till then, I’ll make sure I snap some shots of her lovely tees and creative fashion works.

planning for my wedding website 0

Lately, I have been busy preparing for my upcoming wedding websites. While designing a wedding website is exciting and fun, I have been thinking of ways to make my wedding website stand out from the rest. It is a very competitive industry, they say.

One of my desire is to see if I can tie up with indie jewelry designers or bridal gift designers to design a nice collection of wedding gifts and bridal jewelry, to be sold exclusively at my wedding website. I admire indie designers and artisan gifts and would love to promote them if given the opportunity. The key to this success is the research and time to find the right partners.

While I continue to planning for the launch of my wedding website, I am planning for Disney cruises for our little boy in our upcoming vacation. Friday is coming, I’ll be off to Singapore again :)

Yesterday, a dear friend of mine pointed me to an article on Slow Travel and I thought it was interesting. Slow travel refers to travelers – indie or non indie – who take their time when they travel, without rushing to do the touristy stuff. It helps us to enjoy the essence of a real indie vacation and without forgetting what a real vacation should do to our mind and total being.

While there are many indie destinations for indie travelers, from Outer Banks, trekking in the Himalayas to beach hopping in the Hawaiian islands or taking a fresh appreciation at the autumn colours of ancient city Kyoto. Talking about Kyoto, I am so excited with our upcoming family trip to Japan. I can’t wait to experience a Ryokan stay in Hakone and most importantly, I’m praying for the nicest autumn leaves when we arrived in end November. I sure hope to do some slow travel with my family this time though we will only be in Japan for two weeks.

outdoor adventures for indie travelers 0

Posted on October 04, 2008 by dorischua

There are many ways to keep trimmed and fit. Indie travelers tend to opt for outdoor adventurous, fun seeking and extreme sports and activities. For those who want to keep their weight down, instead of resorting to diet pills like Leptovox, why not get involved in outdoor activities like mountain biking, mountain climbing, trekking, canoeing, boating…etc. When you are all out to try out the extreme sports and activities, don’t forget to be well equipped with the proper attire and gear suitable for the outdoors.

be an indie cook too and download your recipe toolbar 0

If there is one more thing I like to learn when I retire, it has to be cooking. Well, I can cook simple meals and even attempt to bake a cake but if given the opportunity, I would love to learn from a pro.

A cook or chef is very much an indie person. Normally he or she has a great mind of his/her own who loves to whip out creative dishes that whet the appetite – chefs and cooks are creative bunch of people! You may think that a portion of cornbread dressing is just some cornflour and oil but the indie cooks will make it inspirational with a touch of herbs and exotic ingredients. Well, you too can learn to be creative by downloading this recipe toolbar and thus, be an indie cook too!

chic gift ideas and ethnic gifts 0

Finding a chic and unique gift for someone who is in the hardware and work holding can be a tough one. Thankfully, this dear friend of mine loves ethnic stuff so the chic qualities can be put on hold for a while.

This set of Brocade Rocks Glasses by New Arcadia Studio make a beautiful gift idea for someone who loves a drink or two on those social occasions. Used them for serviing spirits in notably glamorous gilded rocks glasses with vibrant hand-drawn brocade pattern. For chic gift ideas or ethnic gifts, check out the range of products at Aliza Darik Inc dba MultiChic.com.
