I just got back from a busy business trip yesterday night and it’s now back at work again. Sometimes, I get so tired with the daily grind and stresses but this is what life is all about for most working people. My husband was raving to me about the founding story of Etsy dot com this whole evening. I didn’t sound surprised as Etsy had been one of my favourite indie designers’ stop for a long time. He didn’t believe that Etsy is one place where you can find almost anything handmade - from cupcakes to lampshade, to purses and cases to store top diet pills, to knitted scarves and eco candles. In fact, I even made a good online pal via Etsy after spotting her works in one of the featured stores. According to Wikipedia, Independent music, often abbreviated as indie, is a term used to describe genres, scenes, subcultures, styles and other cultural attributes in music, characterized by their independence from major commercial record labels and their autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. Internet technology allows artists to introduce their music to a potentially enormous audience at low cost without necessarily affiliating with a major recording label. The design of digital music software encourages the discovery of new music. My dream is to build a Bose home theater so that I can enjoy music from my favourite indie artists in the comforts of my home.

In this technological era, one would surely say that television and internet are key factors or driving forces that push technology forward.  The speed of technological changes wouldn’t be this fast or strong without the help and aid of internet and TV.  Read the rest of this entry →

It’s so nice to hear inspiring stories especially from those who have been through a rough patch in life and are now experiencing a new lease of life. I heard about a friend who had successfully completed a drug rehab program and along the recovery process, discovered his love and passion in craftwork. He’s devoting himself to glass art as well as fabric painting and been selling most of his stuff in flea markets. At this moment, he is working on a collection where he can start a small online store at Etsy and use that as a stepping stone. Etsy is a great place where artists and creative hands display and market their indie works to consumers, buyers and everyone who appreciate originality and indie creations.

I always admire people who can travel for months backpacking from one state to another, one town to next and not worrying too much about personal comforts…etc. As much as I admire indie travelers, I don’t think I qualify to be one! I heard from some travelers via a forum who were talking about how easy it was to find cheap hotels in the US, from Vegas hotel to LA hotels. I trust that the indie traveler community is growing these days and if you like to know more about that, just google the search term ‘indie traveler’ and you should be presented with lots of resources!

No matter what sort of business you are involved in, you need to consider different marketing and advertising channels - offline and online. As for us, we have to design our own marketing brochures and work with companies who provide printing services for our marketing materials. Since our target audience is mainly the business personnel, a well designed brochure is necessary to attract their attention, not omitting the importance of quality content and attractive pricing.
