While attending a talk on Los Angeles labia reduction procedure, my girl cousin happened to sit next to this lady who is a fan of indie stuff. And since my cousin knew about my penchant for indie accessories and clothing, she couldn’t wait to tell me more about her conversion with this lady. And that’s how I learnt about Poppytalk handmade. This very unique handmade necklace made of natural materials reminds me of my auntie who just had a Botox in Manhattan New York few months ago. She loves natural stuff and is an organic follower so her decision to go for cosmetic treatments has surprised many of her friends.
Back to this unique wood pendant designed by New Orleans indie designer, Katherine Dejarnette Babin, husk is aptly named because it is a creation of corn husk and chicken feather, layered onto a large wooden pendant. This eyecatching piece is paired with a cluster of wood cubes that hang from dark brass chain. I believe my aunt will love husk cos she collects such natural handmade jewelry from around the globe. She can probably pair husk with this pair of very unique palm earrings made of rectangular pieces of wood surrounded in metal and hang from sterling silver earwires.
Designer Katherine has lots of other stylish jewelry made with other materials such as vintage glass beads, lockets and brooches, semi-precious stones, metals, textiles and timber and anything she finds interesting. I have to say that she’s one creative and intuitive artist and designer. Find her at http://dejarnettenola.com

It’s always a thrill for me to discover new indie sites, businesses and blogs. When I came across manic trout, I was inspired of her creativity and artistic flair. She uses simple materials to create beautiful stuff and the result is a masterpiece, a one of a kind handmade accessory for the modern gal or the fashionista who prefers to stand out from the crowd and escape the lure of the latest trends in town. This has been my third month into potty training. Just when I thought that he is now almost 100% potty trained, he is going backwards, having a few accidents when I least expected it – sigh! So I decided to read up some material on potty training for boys and while doing that, I stumbled upon the website of Winifred Grace. Read the rest of this entry →

I love shopping for baby gifts. In fact, the excitement is all mine when I need to shop for a baby shower or birthday party, it just means that I have another opportunity to head down the children’s department! But the thing is, you don’t even need to drive the stores to buy a gift these days. Online shopping makes it so easy unless you are that sort who need to touch and feel what you are buying. Many people prefer to be there personally to pick their gifts. Otherwise, shopping online is convenient and easy especially when there are heaps of quality baby stores in the web.

Well, this fun hand knit hat from Auntie Jenny is colorful, funky, and fun…great for winter days! With bright, bold polka dots (or polka squres, if you rather) in blue, yellow, and green, this hat will chase any winter “blahs” away! Perfect for any boy or girl who loves color!

Launched in 2003, Lucky Accessories is a boutique that sells one of a kind jewelry, hair accessories and a variety of fabric and paper accessories online, at trunk shows, artist’s markets and through select retailers nationwide. Whether Kiona van Rhee-Wilson, a Dutch native is admiring at the irregularities of the wood, shells and stones with which she crafts her jewelry, or helping to realize the dream of the fashionista, Kiona is happy to be creating accessories that motivate women to define their own style and femininity.
I adore her peapod necklaces, rings and earrings and her vintage paper pendants – they are simply elegant, artistic and very special! [http://www.luckyaccessories.com]

Before you think that these are just some ordinary silver jewelry. Well, look carefully – they are actually inspired by the fertility symbol of a male sperm! I find them so cute and playful. Found at Stitchpixie, each accessory is designed and handmade by Cyan, an artist from Vancouver, BC. She is heavily inspired by pop art and retro memorabilia, and she has a greater interest in fashioning unique designs rather than mass-producing the same piece.
You can tell that she combines punchy color with simplicity and function. Her Akimbo line of sterling earrings incorporates the earring functionality into the overall design for a sleek, aesthetically balanced feel. Her vegan-friendly vinyl pouches and wristlets deconstruct everyday images into simple di- or tri-chromatic works that tackle everything from mammalian reproduction to nature scenes. She is heavily inspired by pop art and retro memorabilia, and she has a greater interest in fashioning unique designs rather than mass-producing the same piece. Oh, need we read more! By the way, 10% of proceeds from stitchpixie.com go towards sponsoring a child named memory in zambia.

I find myself missing Australia lately. It’s just one place I feel so at home – at work or at play. I can’t wait to return to my favourite places especially the white sand beaches in Queensland and Perth. Driving in Australia is the best way to see the country and visit the lovely beaches and natural rainforests. It is so easy to book and search for hotels in Australia with online accommodation sites. Gold Coast Hotels are growing in numbers in the recent years and you can practically choose to stay by the coast at an affordable price now. One place I like to drive to when I find the chance one day is Noosa Heads. At Cheaperthanhotels, you can find good deals for Noosa Hotels as well as Cairns Hotels. And if you are heading for some cool shopping, finding a nice Sydney accommodation at Cheaperthanhotels can save you some money for your shopping too.
